10 Reasons

I know it seems like I've gone off the deep end, but I am really liking the freedom I have with Linux. I switched because I wanted my older equipment to run faster and because I wanted to share in all the free software.

I found a link tonight that I think you should read. It gives 10 reasons why people should switch to Linux.

Thanks for the link Brian.

I have been planning to re-image my desktop computer, which I have been sharing with my roommates. The main reason is because it has been starting up and running apps slowly.

So it is good to see that Linux allows for multiple user setups, and provides for better performance.

My only concern is that programs such as Quicken, which I use for finances, will not be compatible. Actually that is the only one that really concerns me, so I will install it on my laptop before I take the leap.

FYI, there are versions of Linux which support dual boot setups. I think Ubuntu will suit my purposes though.

Steve, glad you are interested. Two things: 1). Use the Wubi installer - it allows you to retain your original Windows XP installation and add Linux Ubuntu and have dual boot. Russell did it a couple of weeks ago, and it's great. See this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3iILE007CMw.
2). There are some Linux programs that can import Quicken format (QIF) files. See this link: http://kmymoney2.sourceforge.net/index2.html.

I'm sure you will want to ask Dennis too, since he is a veteran Linux user.
